Biodynamic Agriculture

Biodynamic agriculture was developed from a set of lectures given by the Austrian philosopher, Rudolf Steiner in 1924.

Biodynamics is a method of organic agriculture with three key principles:

  1. The farm is a sustainable ecosystem in itself,
  2. The use of biodynamic preparations enhance biological activities in the compost and soil,
  3. The dynamic forces of the sun, moon, planets and constellation’s on the plants nourishes humans physically, spiritually and emotionally.

Biodynamic produce such as: fruit, vegetables, grains, dairy products and wine are available in many parts of the world. The quality standard most commonly used to certify Biodynamic growers is named Demeter. Research shows that biodynamic produce: keeps fresh longer, tastes better and has greater vitality.

The Biodynamic method of agriculture can also be used by home gardeners who have a strong desire to care for the earth and produce high quality food. It is inexpensive to use, but requires a commitment from the grower to learn.

There are many books and workshops available from Biodynamic Associations around the world. Some key reference sites are shown below:
